In a short time the use of LED products for maritime aids to navigation equipment became common practise. However, up to now the application of LED technology was limited to signals and lanterns only. Adequate lighting of (maritime) traffic signs using LED's is rather complex. Besides a high light intensity, the LED's must have enough light divergence and their color should be within the acceptable color spectrum range. Because PINTSCH ABEN always can dispose of the newest generation high-intensity LED’s, all 3 design requirements can now be met.  

In test assemblies different types of LED armatures and their lighting performance on maritime traffic signs were directly compared to the commonly mounted 7 Watt PL lighting. The experiments were attended by specialists of Dutch maritime authority RWS. The final result is the new PINTSCH ABEN LED lighting unit for traffic signs. All  prototypes, operational along the main dutch waterways are - without exception - positively criticized.  

The 48 LED's offer a total light intensity of 500 Lumen consuming in total only 4 Watt. This feature makes the LED lighting unit an ideal component for solar powered installations. The LED print circuit with integrated twilight switch is casted in the armature with a high-duty resin to ensure maximum resistancy against moisture.
